While the role of the literary publisher is well established, publishers also occupy an important role in the field of contemporary art: here publishers make it possible for artists working in any discipline to produce–and bring to market– high-quality printed editions. Join print publishers Angee Lennard and Jessica Cochran of Chicago-based Process/Process to learn about contemporary art prints as an important segment of today’s art market.
Lennard and Cochran will share a behind-the-scenes look at the collaborative process that takes shape between an artist and a printer. They will illuminate why artists choose to make prints, how prints and printmaking can enrich an artist’s practice, and how the seriality of prints offers an attractive opportunity to artists as well as collectors.
Printing plates, state proofs, and other process-oriented materials will illustrate various print mediums such as screenprinting, intaglio, and relief. Through these, attendees will see how a project evolves , from initial concepting to the methods of signing and numbering the final prints.
